“Quisieron enterrarnos, pero se les olvido que somos semillas.”
“They wanted to bury us, but they forgot that we are seeds.”
Founded in September 2020, Pacific Blue Organics was formed to answer the call of repairing and restoring marginalized communities. PBO programs are designed to provide no cost access to fresh food and air sources for generations, while also addressing the immediate need posed by food insecurity with local produce rescued from surplus.
Our efforts contribute to ongoing development of community infrastructures that address hunger, food insecurity, economic instability and much needed carbon offset sources. Our foundation is centered on accessibility, we seek to make our services as inclusive and accessible as possible to those most marginalized in society.
Our fruit tree seedling project currently has over 200 avocado and jackfruit tree seedlings in various stages of growth. All grown using true zero-waste methodology. The seeds are from food that was eaten and plastic waste (such as water bottles) has been repurposed for planters. We even make our own compost and fertilizer using food scraps.
To address the immediate need for nutritious food, we provide fresh juice as well as whole fruits and vegetables to unhoused communities and to those who are experiencing food insecurity. We receive generous surplus produce donations from local organic farmers and we also partner with Food Forward to receive produce they have rescued from the waste stream. We redistribute over 400lbs of rescued fruits and vegetables every week.
In 2021, we redistributed over 16,000 lbs of produce, and provided over 1,000 packs of fresh juice to community members in need in Long Beach and Los Angeles, focusing mostly on South Central and communities of displaced residents surviving on the embankments of the LA river.
As part of our community building efforts, we come together with various other “boots-on-the-ground” organizations to ensure that we serve the most people and make the biggest impact with whatever resources we have.
